Hi Barry,
Yes, I believe I did.
Staff in my area currently use the Data Warehouse to produce a number of reports related to quality assurance and enforcement of policy which require that we have visibility of student name. The reports identify individual records which need to be reviewed or updated manually in ISIS. It's technically possible that we could complete our processing without knowing the name, but matching the name from the report to the record that you pull up in ISIS based on the PID is an important validation. If we make a mistake and pull the wrong record and process an incorrect update, there's very little in the way of an audit trail which would help us make the correction. It's measure twice, cut once type of situation. I have 20 or 30 queries that fall into this category and result in hundreds of updates like this.

Couldn't agree more. Have seen this to be especially true when attempting to validate and enter data in the payroll system as PID is not included in that system, only EID. Sometimes name is one of the only data elements upon which to compare to ensure you are working with the same (or with the correct) individual.
Same with what has been said - that validation & audit are very important. And the questionable reliability of data elements like PID/EID. In practice, we also don't refer to students as their PID, it's their names that we use.
Also important in cases of duplicate records for the same student - incorrect / no SSN or different name spelling - we see this a lot with students who once attended summer as a visitor and now matriculating at UCSD. It is important to see the name and PID to make sure records are combined correctly.
Echoing Christopher and Natalie, we also use these data for validity purposes regularly.
